It’s been awhile since I’ve put a post up on sequins, something I was reminded of when I saw Anna Torv’s KILLER red sequined gown by Marc Bouwer at the Emmys. Gorgeous. Probably my favorite look of the night.

While there are many reasons I wouldn’t have the guts to wear a floor-length, skin-tight, red sequined gown, there are plenty of wearable sequined dresses out there I would be obliged to wear. Many, in fact, that resemble some of the spring 2010 looks I bookmarked. I would pair these short party dresses with a black blazer, maybe some neutral pumps…

Loving 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010

3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 - style.com

I’ve been a bit busy since last week and will continue to be until Oct., but I had to put a quick post up on one my favorite “look, don’t buy” designers – 3.1 Phillip Lim. I am sad to say the spring 2010 collection isn’t doing it for me, but I love, love, love his resort 2010 looks. The lace, the flowy fabrics, the minis, the muted tones…sigh.

10 Top 20s for My 200th

23 Sep

Favorites

So I completely forgot to mention my 100th post, whenever that was, but I saw TreatsToShare’s post acknowledging the occasion and felt that I should at least write something in honor of my 200th post…crazy!

Thanks to you all that actually take time out of your lives to read about my life in San Diego and musings on food, fashion, travel and the minute details of Jillian Harris’ wardrobe. :) It feels great to find out that my friends and family actually keep up with it, much less complete strangers!

Now normally I stray away from listmania (would anyone really care what my favorite color is?), but I’m making an exception. After the jump, 10 top 20 lists (totaling 200, get it?) of my favorite things. They are not in a particular order and I’m sure I forgot some favs – I pretty much put down what immediately came to mind. One Word Wonders: Shows I’m Watching

Glee (fox.com), Bones (fox.com), Community (nbc.com)

Glee (fox.com), Bones (fox.com), Community (nbc.com)

While I’m (not so) patiently waiting for 30 Rock to begin (Oct. 15!), the fall lineup, so far, has some tasty offerings to sustain me – two newbies, Glee and Community, and one ol’ faithful, Bones.

Since I marathon-watched all four preceeding seasons of Bones this summer (via TV, DVD and the Internet), this is the first season I will be watching as it airs, and the premiere DID NOT disappoint (well, except for the fact that Booth didn’t man up at the end of the episode and tell Brennan how he feels for her). Some may call it cheesy, but really, I challenge you to watch it from season one and not grow attached to the characters and the crazy sexual tension between Booth and Brennan. Do it. I dare you. **Another bonus this season, the rumored guest appearance by Emily Deschanel’s real life sister, Zooey – love her!**

The LYD: Little Yellow Dress

After noticing all the fun yellow design details hidden around the Viceroy Palm Springs – bowls of lemons, even yellow candles in the hanging lanterns – I couldn’t help but see similar mustard and lemon hues popping up in the spring 2010 collections. Today I’m rounding up a handful of the little yellow dresses I’m loving on the runways this week, as well as some you can buy now.

Now I know it’s September, and SOME of us (including me) are more than ready for sweater weather, but here in San Diego it’s pushing 80 degrees, for goodness sake, so I don’t see anything wrong with picking out one (or two) to wear until it gets chilly – plus, end-of-season sales!

I’ll just cut to the chase.

If you like being pampered, impeccable design and spending your day soaking up the sun on a pool float in a perfectly temperate crystal clear pool with an ice cold beverage in your hand, please, for the love, spend a night (or more) at the Viceroy Palm Springs. Pronounced (Miami) vice + roy, this luxury hotel was beautiful, relaxing and full of helpful, attentive staff. It was absolutely perfect for a girls weekend!

Blast from the Past: Spring 2010

Is it just me, or are you too having some serious flashbacks to the days of Barbies and Dr. Seuss books with some of the candy-colored Spring 2010 runway looks?

I just had to point out some of the unintentional and intentional similarities between what designers have been showing at New York Fashion Week and my late 80s/early 90s childhood. (Including the photo on the left – name that children’s book!)

Two Year Surprises

15 Sep

zgallerie.com and amazon.com

We’ve been celebrating our two years of dating for the past week, in a whirlwind of traveling and eating. First with a trip to LA (note the gorgeous flowers Ryker surprised me with at the hotel above), and then with a Restaurant Week dinner last night at Cucina Urbana (post to come!). But when we finally exchanged gifts, I was so excited to see the makings of a lazy day – snuggled up in a (super) soft throw, reading a good book.

**For fellow bookworms or amazing boyfriends of bookworms, you can find the Taylor Throw in Platinum (on sale!) at Z Gallerie and The Complete Illustrated Sherlock Holmes at either Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com.
