With warm weather comes graduations, weddings and other events that require summery, easy dresses. Lately, I’ve been obsessing over strapless ones, and even though I’ve tried a few on, I’ve yet to find that “IT” dress.
My favorites right now are either bright, floral or summer white. Long dresses don’t really do it for me (something about having short legs), so my picks are all on the mini side.
After the jump, some of the strapless mini dresses I liked on the Spring 2009 runways from Style.com.
Runway Looks
I love the cantaloupe color and the beaded detailing of Matthew Williamson’s tulip dress, but it’s definitely the dressiest of the bunch. The paper bag look of Stella McCartney’s mini gives it the versatility of dressing it up or down, but I wish the color was brighter. I really like the shape of Collette Dinnigan’s fluttery little number, but are the butterflies overkill?
White Out
There’s just something about a white (or cream) dress that makes me want to take a nap on the grass and pick flowers. Or, like this first Current/Elliott one’s name suggests - twirl around at a tea party.
Oh look! She’s even wearing this dress with my sandals!
I love everything about this dress…the studs, the pockets, the perfectly placed ruching at the empire waist…
Pretty Prints
Florals and polka dots are everywhere, which is a good thing, since I’ve been known to wear at least three different prints at one time. Plus, since these dresses are so mini, the prints aren’t overkill (like it would be on a maxi dress). I would probably pair a long solid color sweater with these next frocks.
I think I like this corset dress because it reminds me of something Minnie Mouse would wear if she was, well, more like a twenty-something living in Southern Cali and less like a cartoon character.
Bright Lights
And finally, some simple dresses that pop with color. I have more black dresses than I know what to do with…my wardrobe could use a little sunshine.
I keep coming back to this shape…it almost has a Spanish flair to it.
This one is super simple, but could be worn all day at the beach and into the night with a quick accessory change.

um, the reason there was no photo last time I commented was because I had tried to change my photo and all the ones I chose were too big and I got frustrated and didn’t put one in. But I just added one back in today, so let’s see if it works.
oooh ok. much better
by the way (I think I say that too much), the floral print dress from urban reminds me of the dress that I just gave away for Easter (style of print, not exact colors though),
I love your comments about the ‘Minnie’ dress….
that’s true! but i would buy it in a size that fits….
oh, I know, I just meant I really like the fabric, I always have liked that tiny floral print for some reason….I like the one that was too small too:)
wish I could wear strapless, just feels to bare unless I’m at the beach, love halters too but have always had weird feelings about my back, it’s not logical :/
the ella moss cream is beautiful and a playful mix between the elegant fabric and casual style, nice…
