3.1 Phillip Lim Sleeveless Sequined Tuxedo - net-a-porter.com

net-a-porter.com

So I saw that a few people visiting my site were looking for a 3.1 Phillip Lim sequined vest…which naturally, spiked my interest. Was it spotted on a celebrity? Is it on sale somewhere? And more importantly, do I need it??

What I found was a piece I had passed up a while ago when I was looking through Lim’s Spring 2009 collection. It’s a sleeveless sequined tuxedo, and I wasn’t impressed with it on the runway, but looking at it on net-a-porter.com, I’m in awe. It’s super sparkly, delicate, and would pair nicely with black or white ankle-length jeans, maybe some bright heels…I’ll just sit here and stare, don’t mind me.

What’s really weird about this story is that I rarely, maybe 1 percent of the time, regret shopping decisions…

Last winter (and I use that term loosely as it is San Diego), still bundled up in sweaters and scarves, I found the PERFECT strapless denim mini dress at Barney’s CO-OP - a light blue engineer stripe Current/Elliott tulip dress. I mean, worn-in denim, sweetheart neckline, pockets (!!)…and I DIDN’T GET IT. While I do, in part, blame myself, I also blame the store/label for tempting me with a full-on summer dress with months to go before the tights-less season. Read the rest of this entry »

Once

Once

This is my “movies to watch” list that I’ve been adding to and checking off for quite a while. My great idea was to add brief reviews on the ones I see, as I see them, so that someone, somewhere might heed my advice and avoid wasting time and money on a lousy film. Also, I wanted this list to remind me what movies I still need to see.

While a good amount of the movies I watch could go either way, there are some that I think are just plain terrible (Bottle Shock comes to mind), and some that just have that perfect amount of humor, sweetness, sadness and even soundtrack (e.g., Once).

The list of movies, both in theaters and on DVD, with the short and sweet rundown, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Choco Loco Cupcake - sprinkles.com

Since we will be in Beverly Hills Saturday, I already have visions of Sprinkles cupcakes dancing in my head. Specifically, the Cinco de Mayo “Choco Loco” cupcakes with Belgian dark chocolate cake and bittersweet chocolate/Mexican cinnamon frosting…yum!

The only question is…do I grab a strawberry or coconut one to go?

While Sprinkles is always on my must-do list when I venture north of San Diego, I’ve also been DYING to try another mini delectable delight – a macaron at Paulette, situated mere minutes from my favorite cupcakery. Read the rest of this entry »

With warm weather comes graduations, weddings and other events that require summery, easy dresses. Lately, I’ve been obsessing over strapless ones, and even though I’ve tried a few on, I’ve yet to find that “IT” dress.

My favorites right now are either bright, floral or summer white. Long dresses don’t really do it for me (something about having short legs), so my picks are all on the mini side.

After the jump, some of the strapless mini dresses I liked on the Spring 2009 runways from Style.com. Read the rest of this entry »

Wine Steals in Point Loma - yelp.com

Wine Steals in Point Loma - yelp.com

One of my favorite places for an intimate get-together with friends or a inexpensive date night is Wine Steals in Liberty Station. (There are two other locations – Hillcrest and Cardiff – but the Point Loma one is the most cozy.) Not only do they have an amazing cheese board selection, great happy hour and abundant tastings, they have “The Deal”.

The Deal is two huge slices of delicious thin crust pizza (I usually go with the pepperoni) and a glass of wine off the happy hour menu for just $9. I mean, really, how can you resist? It’s taking everything in me not to drive over there right now. And it’s 10:45 a.m.

391193388_1353467573_0I love my Polaroids, but I have such a hard time figuring out how to put them on display! In my little office cubicle I have two options: Staples clips that make indentations in photos, or push pins that poke holes through them. My Polaroids are way to precious to get mutilated like that!

Finally, after staring at the office supplies around me for a while, I figured out how to do it. Here’s what I did: Read the rest of this entry »

I have all sorts of lovely blog post ideas…but I’m too exhausted after two days of rip-roaring fun at Stagecoach and getting home at 2 a.m. to attempt such things.

**side note** In case you were wondering…I went with the high-low strategy at the concert. I paired my Citizens denim shorts with an American Eagle tank the first day and my Milly halter with distressed light wash AE denim shorts the second. Stuck with my good ol’ J Simpson boots both days.
