On Monday we drove right up the street from Ryker’s house to Summerhill Pyramid Winery. Once up there, we had a gorgeous view of the Okanagan valley (on the video, Ryker’s house is to the right of his big white barn). Besides being Canada’s largest organic vineyard, Summerhill is also known for its pyramid.
Summerhill has a great selection of sparkling wines; sweet, white wines, such as Gewürztraminer and Ehrenfelser; and Icewine. All of which are delicious. We did a tour of the grounds (see videos) that also included a tasting of three wines. My personal favorite was the Ehrenfelser, Summerhill’s best-selling wine, known as “the hot tub wine.”
After eating at the winery’s bistro (the crab and artichoke pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had – plus the owner/founder of Summerhill, Stephen Cipes, was also grabbing lunch at the bistro) we paid for an additional tasting: icewine. We tasted the Pinot Noir and the Riesling Icewines; surprisingly the Riesling wasn’t as sweet as the Pinot Noir, which was almost too sweet.
