Procrastinating yet again, I still don’t have a Halloween costume. After having no luck finding a cheap, cute, light blue dress to be Alice, I’m thinking it would be easier to find a red dress and be the Queen of Hearts. Other perks: she is a brunette not a blonde, and I would get to wear a tiara
. Below are some possibilities/inspirations. Apparently there is a similar version of the Bloomingdale’s one at the Closet (thanks Heather!), so that’s where I’m going to look first. I only have a few days left, fingers crossed! Read the rest of this entry »
Laura, Heather and I were in major need of a Sprinkles cupcake fix, so we made the trek to the Newport Beach location to indulge in some coconut, caramel apple and red velvet tasty treats. Read the rest of this entry »

Just some quick thoughts on the Spring 2009 collections… After looking through a few of my usual favs and being disappointed with their drab, uninspired looks, I came across two collections that I love. This is only my first sweep of the collections – I will do a more thorough overview in the days to come – but my stars right now are Luella and Stella McCartney. I will admit I have a penchant for British designers (and lately I can’t get enough of Pushing Daisies’ fanciful, 50s frocks), but I can’t help but be drawn to Luella’s bright, frilly (and flattering!) dresses and Stella’s use of sheer, sparkly and satin materials. Dark, somber pieces belong in cool weather collections! I love Luella’s tea party meets school girl meets pastel prom dress collection. And while I could do without the menswear-inspired jumpsuits, Stella’s mix of mini and maxi jackets and dresses accentuate the body in a cool, relaxed way. My most-wanted below. Ever since I went to the new Anthropologie at Fashion Valley on its opening weekend and spotted this multi-ringed ring, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. I’ve always had a soft spot for Anthro jewelry because the pieces have this organic, delicate, vintage-y charm. So when I found myself at Anthro last Thursday and the ring was still there, I couldn’t resist. Not only does it perfectly match my cowboy boot necklace, it goes with everything (and the rearranging possibilities add to its fun factor).
The second winery we went to was highly recommended by Ryker’s mom. The winery, Mission Hill Family Estate, is located on the West Bank of the Okanagan. It was kind of drizzly while we took the tour, but it still had a beautiful view of the valley. Read the rest of this entry »
Lululemon Athletica (pronounced “lulu-lemon”) opened its La Jolla location October 3. Other nearby locations include a showroom in Del Mar and a store in the Carlsbad Forum. This super figure flattering/smart line of yoga and athletic clothing/accessories for men and women is EXTREMELY popular in Canada (Founder Chip Wilson is from Vancouver). A day didn’t pass while I was in Kelowna that I didn’t see a woman walk or jog by in a sweatshirt or workout pants with the trademark “A” logo. Every single detail of a Lululemon item is thought-out and made specifically for a fitness-filled lifestyle. I have a white Lululemon sweatshirt that was a gift from Ryker’s mom and I can’t wait to check out the new location for some more pieces - I’m sure it will motivate me hit the gym.
Since we couldn’t watch the second presidential debate Tuesday night without an ELITE snack
, we picked up a great wine and cheese combo at Discover Wines. The wine we chose comes from Blasted Church Vineyards (the store behind the name isn’t as scandalous as it sounds), and it is a blend of Ehrenfelser, Pinot Gris/Grigio, Riesling and Gewurztraminer called Hatfield’s Fuse. The lady helping us out recommended pairing it with an aged Gouda and a rosemary/Parmesan cracker made by a local chef. The saltiness of the Gouda paired excellently with the sweetness of the wine, but the crackers were a bit too flavorful and salty, next time I would have picked a less imposing cracker.
On Monday we drove right up the street from Ryker’s house to Summerhill Pyramid Winery. Once up there, we had a gorgeous view of the Okanagan valley (on the video, Ryker’s house is to the right of his big white barn). Besides being Canada’s largest organic vineyard, Summerhill is also known for its pyramid. Read the rest of this entry »
